Burleson Independent Soccer Association Third Quarter Update

Dear valued B.I.S.A. member,

We have reached the end of the third quarter of our fiscal year. Registration for the spring season is officially closed and we are no longer accepting late registrations for the spring season. For the spring season, BISA has 936 kids registered to play soccer which is about 70 more kids than we had for the fall season!

Games schedules are still be worked on as we speak. We will get those to you as soon as possible. And as a reminder all home games will be played at the Dobson facility this season.

We are very excited to announce that Alex Haralson has joined the board of directors as the adult league commissioner and Lanie Bennett has joined the board as the Older Girls Commissioner. We appreciate them volunteering!

Our treasurer (Coby Morrison) has set up another BISA fund raising opportunity. This does not cost members any money but will raise funds for BISA just by shopping as you regularly would. Members can go to kroger.com and log in to their rewards account and select BISA and our soccer association will receive a small rebate percentage of member’s purchases. We really appreciate your help with this.

As part of our sponsorship partnership with Academy Sports + Outdoors, we also had our BISA shopping days February 17-19th. This usually happens before every season, so if you missed out on this one be on the look out in the fall.

The renovations for the fields at the Bartlett sports complex are in progress; work began in February 2023 and is expected to end by June 2023. We owe a big THANK YOU to our partners at the city of Burleson for making this happen.

Of course, this means we will be playing our spring season at the Dobson fields. There will be some challenges playing games at Dobson but it will be worth it in the long run. The Dobson fields flood when it rains, and parking is more congested than at the Bartlett fields. We appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility this season.

Over the last couple of months there has been a massive cleanup/renovation effort at the Dobson fields. We had lots of people come out and help. Thank you to everyone who came out, it really was appreciated.

For the third consecutive season our referee director, Janine Quinn; organized a referee clinic in Burleson for February 25, 2023. We had a HUGE turnout for this clinic. We always need referees, if anyone is interested, please reach out to Janine. Janine.quinn@bisasoccer.com.

The board of directors has spent a lot of time during the off season trying to creatively combat the statewide referee shortage. In addition to the above-mentioned referee clinic, we raised referee pay and have spread out our game schedules. We are confident that these changes will allow us to have referees available for more games.

Our Tournament director, Philip Shelton; is working to organized our second Midnight madness tournament in Burleson. We are planning on having this tournament June 3rd & 4th so save the date. More details to come.

In November the board of directors met and made the decision to change our current playing arrangement for our U8 and below teams. We will no longer be playing with the Crowley Independent Soccer Association in our U4 thru U8 age groups. This means that all games for our U4-U8 teams will be played “in-house” at the Burleson fields.

BISA will hold is annual elections this spring in May. The positions on the ballot will be: Vice President, Secretary/Registrar, Younger boys commissioner, Older Girls Commissioner, Coaching/Tournament director, and Referee Director.

As always, please reach out to me or any of the board members if we can help in any way.

Thanks,

Daniel Gipson

BISA President
